Most Insane Hotel on Planet Earth?: Explore El Chalten is simply word-class. Tucked deep into the Electric Mountain Range--a nature preserve 40 minutes outside El Chalten--this hotel is stunning the moment you arrive with unobstructed views of glaciers, mountains, rivers, and wildlife at your fingertips. As a nature lover, this might be the coolest hotel on Planet Earth, and I'm not exaggerating. Do yourself a favor, book this trip now. We went in April 2024 (their Fall) and the Fall colors and cool weather were spectacular.

Exceptional Hotel in Every Way: Explora El Chalten is one the best hotels we have visited anywhere in the world. It is expensive but worth it. The location is amazing, the rooms great and the staff could not be more friendly and helpful. The food is also exceptional. As if that was not enough the guides are extremely knowledgeable and amongst the best anywhere and take a lot of trouble to take guests on routes that are most suitable to them and also least crowded. The walks we did and the views particularly of Mount Fitzroy were truly memorable. We wished we could have stayed longer. We are already planning our next stay in an Explora property.

My wife and I spent four nights at Explora El Chaltén in February, 2024. I highly recommend the hotel. This was my 8th stay at an Explora property – with El Chaltén, I’ve stayed in all of the current (as of February, 2024) Explora lodges. El Chaltén provided fabulous hiking in a unique location. I’m glad we came. The lodge is about 40 minutes north of the town of El Chaltén – not that far in terms of actual distance, but traffic moves slowly on the gravel roads. It’s located in the Los Huemules Conservation Reserve, so it’s pretty much all by itself. You truly get a sense of wilderness there. If you’ve been at another Explora lodge, the architecture will be familiar. Lots of clean lines, pleasant public spaces with views of the countryside (mountains and glaciers, here), and lots of light. I kept taking pictures of the mountains from our table at breakfast and dinner, as the light changed, and sending them off to our son – almost every shot got a “wow”.
