ARCHITECTURE
ARCHITECTURE
Our base is a lodge built for linking man to temporary space- present and past- and the mysteries of nature. Explora is located in the Ayllu de Larache (initially a kin-based community of the ancient Aymara people), near the village of San Pedro de Atacama. The 17-hectare (42-acre) grounds comprise 20 indigenous parcels, some with timeworn pathways and buildings that explora is committed to preserving out of a profound respect for the area’s original inhabitants.
Inside the lodge, guests are greeted by stylish and thoughtfully designed interiors, featuring locally sourced furnishings and artisanal touches. These elements allow us to admire the surroundings in peace, free from distractions. Common areas such as lounges, dining rooms, and relaxation areas are designed to foster a sense of community and relaxation, providing the perfect backdrop for socializing or quiet contemplation.
The architecture of Explora Lodge in Atacama embodies a commitment to sustainability, and immersion in nature, creating an unforgettable experience for guests seeking in-depth explorations in Atacama.
SPA
SPA
Surrounded by pampas grass and other local flora, our four pools are the perfect place to relax and enjoy the quiet of the desert after a demanding exploration. The temperature of one of the pools ranges from 25°C to 28° C / 77°F to 82°F. In the nearby area are the sauna, steam baths, and outdoor hot tubs. There’s no better place for a blissful retreat amidst the captivating beauty of the Atacama Desert scenery.
OBSERVATORY
OBSERVATORY
San Pedro de Atacama boasts some of the world’s clearest skies and is, therefore, one of the best places to practice astronomy. For that reason, in 2008 we inaugurated Explora’s observatory, which has become one of the best private Chilean observatories. Its dome houses a potent and advanced optics telescope, the Meade 16” f/10 LX200R Advanced RD, and a main mirror of 40 cm in diameter with extraordinary resolution and sharpness. The Atacama Desert was named the “Stargazing Capital of the World,” and Explora is proud to offer you a front row seat to all the action.
GASTRONOMY
GASTRONOMY
Our culinary proposition was exclusively developed by the renowned Peruvian Chef Virgilio Martínez. Martínez is widely known as Peru’s best chef and was named the “Best Chef in the World,” on the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list in 2023.
Inspired by the Atacama Desert, our cuisine includes local and native ingredients such as chañar and cachiyuyo to explore the Andean region’s unique flavors. We hope our travelers live a unique dining experience discovering the natural treasures of the driest desert in the world.
PURITAMA HOT SPRINGS
PURITAMA HOT SPRINGS
The Puritama hot springs, whose name comes from “Puri” (water) and “Tama” (hot), have 8 thermal pools in the middle of a canyon surrounded by native vegetation. These hot springs maintain a temperature that ranges between 28° and 31° Celsius, making them ideal for family enjoyment.
